Revive360 › Privacy policy
Privacy policy
In short: Revive360 does not collect, send, share or sell any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. What the app needs is stored only on your phone and on your camera, and the phone talks only to your camera.
Who we are
Revive360 is a free, open source project published by its developer on GitHub (simoneluconi). It is not made, affiliated with or endorsed by Samsung. As the app does not collect personal data, the developer receives no data about you.
What we do not collect
- No name, email, phone number or account of any kind.
- No location. On Android 10, 11 and 12, Android requires the location permission to search for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices: the app uses it only to find your camera and never reads or stores your location.
- No usage statistics, crash reports, advertising identifiers or device identifiers sent anywhere.
- No photos or videos are uploaded anywhere.
The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking libraries.
What stays on your phone
To work, the app keeps the following on your phone, in its private storage:
- Your paired cameras: the camera's name, model, firmware version, Wi-Fi network name and password, and its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth addresses, so that the app can reconnect by itself.
- Your preferences: theme, accent colour, vibration, and the framing you chose for each 360° photo.
- An event log: technical messages such as connection steps and errors (at most about 512 KB), to help when something goes wrong. It stays on the phone unless you copy it yourself.
- Temporary files: thumbnails and files being downloaded from the camera.
Photos and videos you choose to save go to your phone's gallery, in Pictures/Revive360, Movies/Revive360 or Download/Revive360. They are yours and stay on the phone like any other photo.
The app's data is excluded from Android's cloud backup. "Forget" in the app's settings deletes a camera's pairing; uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes all of it.
What the app sends, and to whom
Only to your own camera, directly, over Bluetooth Low Energy and over the camera's own Wi-Fi network. This is a local connection between the two devices: it does not go through the internet or through any server. The app sends the camera its commands (shoot, settings, file requests) and your phone's current time and time zone, so that the camera's clock is right.
The app uses Android's internet permission only to open this local connection to the camera.
Permissions
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to find your camera and ask it to switch its Wi-Fi on.
- Nearby Wi-Fi devices / Wi-Fi and network state: to join the camera's Wi-Fi network.
- Location (Android 10 to 12 only): required by Android for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi searches; not used for your location.
- Local network access: to reach the camera on its Wi-Fi network.
The app does not need permission to read your photos: it saves new files through Android's media store.
The camera add-on
The add-on installed on your Gear 360 runs only on the camera. It keeps its settings, including the Wi-Fi password it creates, and technical logs on the camera's microSD card. It does not connect to the internet. The camera's Wi-Fi network is protected by that password, and a new phone can be paired only in the first minutes after the camera is switched on.
Sharing
We do not share data with anyone, because we do not have any. If you choose to copy the event log and send it to someone, for example in a bug report on GitHub, it goes only to whoever you send it to.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party content: fonts and images are served from the site itself. It is hosted on GitHub Pages: like any web server, GitHub may record technical data such as your IP address when you visit. See the GitHub Privacy Statement. Downloading the app from GitHub is subject to the same statement.
Children
The app collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Everything the app stores is on your own devices and under your control: you can delete it at any time as described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date. Every change is also visible in the project's public history on GitHub.
